COULTERVILLE, Mariposa County — Travelers staying in or passing through Coulterville may plan trips toward Yosemite National Park. Mountain travel requires more than a map application: state highway conditions and roads inside the park are managed by different agencies.
Before driving toward Yosemite
For California highways, consult Caltrans QuickMap. For park entrances, closures and conditions, use the National Park Service Yosemite conditions page. A route that is open outside the park may still lead to a park road subject to restrictions.
Choose the correct entrance
The NPS directions page explains the different Yosemite entrances and warns that navigation apps sometimes suggest unsuitable routes. Check the park’s entrance guidance, travel time and any reservation or fee requirements before leaving.
Prepare for mountain weather
Snow, rockfall, wildfire and roadwork can affect travel throughout the year. Carry water, warm layers and offline directions, and never drive around a gate or barrier. Visitors should confirm whether their intended trail or campground is open independently of the road status.
